For sale is an exceptional Breitling Co-Pilot Ref. 765 CP, highly valued by collectors and also known by the nickname “Jean-Claude Killy”. The Ref. 765 CP is one of the most characteristic Breitling chronographs of the 1960s. The model designation “CP” stands for Co-Pilot. Particularly striking is the high-contrast reverse panda dial with a black background and light sub-dials. Together with the black rotating bezel and the generously sized stainless steel case, the watch has the unmistakable instrument character of classic pilot's chronographs. This reference became famous not least through the French ski racer Jean-Claude Killy, who wore a Breitling 765 CP at the 1968 Winter Olympics in Grenoble, where he won three gold medals. Inside works the legendary Venus 178 – a mechanical manual-winding chronograph calibre with column-wheel control. A special feature of the Co-Pilot is the large 15-minute chronograph counter at 3 o'clock, which was originally tailored to the requirements of aviation. The stainless steel case measures approx. 41–41.5 mm and was exceptionally large for its time. As a result, the 765 CP still looks present and sporty on the wrist today. The black anodised bezel, the reverse panda layout and the plexiglass underline the authentic vintage character. The scope of delivery deserves special mention: the watch is offered with box & papers and comes from the first buyer. Especially with a rare vintage reference such as the 765 CP, traceable provenance with original documents is a special collector's aspect.
